Forza Motorsport will feature Ray Traced Global Illumination on PC

Forza Motorsport will feature PC-only graphics options, which will include RTGI

In a new FAQ about Forza Motorsport, Turn 10 Studios has confirmed that Forza Motorsport will feature PC-exclusive graphical options when the game launches on October 10th, allowing the game to feature better visuals on PC than on Xbox Series X/S.

Ray Traced Global Illumination (RTGI) will be available within Forza Motorsport on PC at launch, a feature that will enhance the game’s lighting system by implementing accurate bounce lighting within the game. This will allow the lighting of surrounding objects to impact the visible colour of nearby surfaces, just like it does in real life.

On Xbox Series X, Turn 10 has confirmed that Forza Motorsport will run at 4K 60 FPS, and that the game will run at 1080p 60 FPS on Xbox Series S. On PC, higher framerates should be possible, though Turn 10 has opted to give gamers a fuller rundown of the game’s PC features closer to launch.

Q: Does Forza Motorsport feature ray traced global illumination?

A: Forza Motorsport on PC will feature RTGI (ray traced global illumination).

Q: How does RTGI improve the visuals of Forza Motorsport?

A: On PC, when we apply ray tracing to global illumination, we are simulating how light accumulates color as it bounces from surface to surface, so a barrier next to a red rumble strip will be influenced by that color, creating a scene where all the pieces are connected.

If Forza Motorsport is anything like Forza Horizon 5 on PC, it will support resolution upscaling in the form of FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, DLSS 3, and XeSS. While these features have not been confirmed for Forza Horizon 5, they are likely additions for Forza Motorsport on PC.
