Feral Interactive are working to support Vulkan in 2017

Feral Interactive is a company that ports games over to Linux, bringing PC games to a wider audience and giving Linux gamers the opportunity to play some of the latest games.

Now Feral Interactive has announced that they have plans to support the Vulkan API in the future, with their first game implementation planned for the 1st half of 2017. The Vulkan API offers a large number of performance benefits when compared to OpenGL, which will hopefully allow Linux games to offer more performance and operate much more efficiently.

The first major AAA release that we have seen Vulkan on is DOOM 2016, offering a huge performance gain over OpenGL, so hopefully Feral Interactive can achieve similar results with their own Vulkan implementation.

Right now we do not know if Feral plans on introducing Vulkan support into their existing projects or just plan to implement support into future releases, but either way, this is a big step for the company and fantastic news for Linux gamers.
