Is the apocalypse closer than we thought?

Fallout 4 rumoured to launch this year

Bethesda Softworks officially announced Fallout 4 yesterday, and the hype was on immediately. There's no known release date yet, but many assumed the game would launch somewhere in 2016. It seems those people may be wrong, as several retailers have listed the game with a shipping date of 'TBA 2015' on their web shops. Now, before you get pessimistic, this includes Bethesda's own store. It seems we may need to store food with a long expiration date, as the apocalypse may be unleashed this year.

Webshops Amazon and Gamestop have listed the game's release date as 'December 31st, 2015' though that's probably a placeholder date. EB Games Australia published the following image though:

I also stumbled upon this image on Twitter (the game is rumoured to take place in Boston).

Unlike Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, you can only play as a man. This is due to the storyline requiring it. However, after the main story is over, you can have a gender change. BGS did not rule out Females for possible standalone DLC, however.
If BGS launches the possibility to play as a female as DLC and/or forces you to play as a male throughout the story, only allowing a change after the story has ended, I'm boycotting the game (especially if it launches as DLC)

Very nice find though, I did see quite a few features I think will be in the game!

I hope they'll include that Classic mode too, that sounds amazing.

EDIT: a Redditor also pointed out this:

In Fallout 4, you are in Boston, and it takes place in the year 2287, exactly 10 years after Fallout 3 (..) Bryan Wilks returns from Fallout 3. Yes, the little boy you saved from Grayditch. He is now 19 years old and is a mercenary

ProTip: He (Bryan Wilks) is 8 years old in Fallout 3

we are making the game more "Story Based" and the player character will finally talk, and narrate his storyline.

Is absolutely spot on though and she posted that (unless Sandra is a he) 11 months ago.

I'm just wondering if Bethesda have pulled a Valve on us and pretty much finished the game before even announcing it.Quote

I'm going to get "Heretic" shouted at me but even though I've only played around an hour total of Fallout 3 I've never been too keen on Fallout, Just didn't grab me mainly to do with the fact that I've never liked the post apocalyptic type scene.

The closest to that genre I've gotten is RAGE which I did enjoy as it reminded me of quake.Quote
