Euro and American Truck Simulator receive major lighting overhauls with update 1.40

SCS Software has completed one of Truck Simulator’s largest graphical overhauls to date, reworking the lighting systems of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator with update 1.40.

Update 1.40 is currently available in open beta, being available to those who wish to test the game’s new lighting system. This beta is available using the game’s public_beta branch on Steam. The way to access the beta is as follows: Steam client → LIBRARY → right-click on American Truck Simulator → Properties → Betas tab → public_beta → 1.40. No password required.

Now, both Trucking titles have never looked better, offering gamers more realistic lighting and a pathway to further graphical upgrades. Truck Simulator has never looked better, but the best is yet to home. A physical lighting model is a major step towards a full physical model for the entire game world, bringing the game closer to full physically-based rendering. Update 1.40 is a major step forward, but SCS Software’s graphical progress will not stop here.

With update 1.40, PC’s digital truckers can now enjoy reworked truck lights, new weather, time-of-day, and skybox combinations, improved mist effects in rainy weather, improved glass, chrome and paint reflections and rebalanced cabin/interior lighting.

While these new graphical changes will have a performance impact, SCS Software has worked to minimise the performance impact of update 1.40 within Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. In time, these effects will be further improved and added to.
