Epic Games Releases Public Store Roadmap - Cloud Saves, Mods are More

The Epic Games Store is garnering a lot of hate from PC gamers, mostly thanks to tactics such as storefront exclusivity for high profile releases, such as Metro Exodus, and their lack of Steam features such as cloud saves and "offline mode".

The idea behind the Epic Games Store is simple, give developers a better deal while offering better content curation than Steam. Epic Games also plans to be a little more transparent, at least when it comes to the Store's development, laying out a plan for the Storefront's progress over on Trello.

Here, we can see that Epic Games plans to add support for "Improvements to Offline Mode", "Could Saves Support" and redesigned store pages within the next three months, while also planning to add features like Wishlists, a news feed and User Reviews in the near future. Mod support for games is also expected, bringing the Epic Store in line with Steam's Workshop.

More details about Epic Games' plans are available over on their Trello board, with timelines that extend from 1-3 months all the way to 6+ months. In the future, a dedicated Android Store is also planned, though plans for Linux support are not present on the roadmap at this time.

On this board, Epic Games plans to keep their users updated with release notes for every new version of the Epic Games Store, as well as a list of recently added features.

If Epic Games manages to complete this roadmap, the company will have successfully created a storefront that is more feature rich than the likes of EA Origin and UPlay, which is an impressive feat for such a new platform. Even so, Epic's main competitor, Steam will remain difficult to dislodge from their dominant market position.

1-3 months before cloud saves. Sigh. I wouldn't mind using this app if it wasn't so rudimentary. You'd think they'd have done all of the stuff like cloud saves before they even made it available. Noobs. It's ruining Metro Exodus for me. The cut scenes are so long they're taking the shine off of the game for me having to watch them all twice.Quote
