EA's rumoured Mass Effect Remaster reportedly delayed until 2021

Rumour has it that EA's working on a remastered version of the original Mass Effect Trilogy, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a game which was reportedly due to release this October. Now, it looks like the game has been delayed until 2021, with sources close to the game's citing development issues.

Factors behind this delay stretch beyond the Covid-19 pandemic, with developers claiming that the quality of Mass Effect 1 does not hold up well when compared to the rest of the package. This factor would give new players a bad first impression for the full package, potentially preventing players from experiencing the more substantial upgrades seen in Mass Effect 2 and 3. These claims come from Venture Beat's Jeff Grubb

While the original Mass Effect is now considered a classic, the game's gunplay and game mechanics are not as refined as those seen in Mass Effects 2 and 3. Perhaps EA's Mass Effect team are trying to make the original Mass Effect play better on modern platforms, or provide other changes which will make the game more fun to play while keeping the game's core elements intact. Perhaps the ability to skip some of Mass Effect's excessively long loading screens is also an element which needs to be added to the game.

The problems surrounding Mass Effects remaster are due to both visual and gameplay issues. It has also been reported that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will not include Mass Effect 3's multiplayer component, as EA is not interested in supporting another live service game.

EA's rumoured Mass Effect Remaster reportedly delayed until 2021

EA's Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is due to release with all DLC components from the original trilogy, giving gamers the opportunity to experience the entire Mass Effect trilogy without paying for any additional add-ons.

To be honest, it sounds like they're trying to get this absolutely right, so I've got no problem waiting. Having some better continuity between the three titles will be well worth it.Quote

As I always go with I'd rather a delay and bug free than a Fall out 76 releaseQuote

There are some very beautiful texture update packs out there for ME1, 2 + 3 i.e MEUITM, If this doesn't at the very least meet those in terms of quality it's going to be quite disappointing.Quote

I have MEUITM on Mass effect 1, and while it does improve a lot of things, i find the textures on the faces a bit to course, rough, but yep i would love to see them upgrade the textures on all of them but, do keep them in the same style.Quote

The irony is that the first game is the best one and I can easily see them spoiling it, especially if they try to 'harmonise' it with the sequels by killing the loot economy and bringing in those stupid 'thermal clips'.Quote
