Discord officially launched their worldwide digital gaming storefront

Earlier this year, Discord revealed their plan to create a new gaming storefront, taking on Steam outside of the communications front. Today, Discord is the go-to voice chat app for PC gamers, replacing Steam chat and Teamspeak for a large number of PC gamers.

Today, Discord has officially launched their worldwide gaming storefront, housing 22 curated indie games on day-1, five of which are “First on Discord” releases.

Unlike platforms like Steam, Discord plans to heavily curate their gaming storefront, ensuring a level of quality that some other digital game stores lack. “First on Discord” games are hand-picked indie titles which will be available on Discord exclusively for a minimum of 90 days, highlighting the quality of the selected games in a way that competing gaming platforms, like Steam, cannot hope to match. Today, Led by King of the Hat, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption, Minion Masters, Bad North, and At Sundown are available as “First on Discord” releases.

Alongside this change, Discord’s Nitro service will see a price increase from $4.99 to $9.99, with the extra money paying for access to Discord’s Nitro gaming library, which currently grants PC gamers access to 80 titles, including;  FTL: Faster Than Light, Metro: Last Light Redux and Brutal Legend. The games available on Discord Nitro will change over time, with games getting removed thanks to expired contracts or coming to the service as new developers and publishers sign up.

Those who prefer Discord Nitro’s older perks will be happy to know that these are retained in Discord’s new Nitro subscription and that those who do not want the service’s gaming content can now subscribe to Nitro Classic for $4.99, offering subscribers the same perks as vanilla Discord Nitro. These perks include custom tags, higher quality screen sharing, larger file uploads (8mb to 50mb), custom emoji and a supports badge.
