The Anno is celebrating its 20th anniversary, giving Ubisoft the opportunity to reminisce about the franchise while encouraging more PC gamers to try out the game's unique blend of real-time strategy, economy management and city building.

Anno 1800 will release in February, but to tide series veterans over until then, Ubisoft has decided to give away free copies of Anno 1602, the game that started it all. This allows newcomers to the franchise to see exactly what Anno is about, while also allowing series veterans to own the game digitally on Uplay, allowing them to move away from the game's disk-based versions.

Ubisoft 1998 classic will work on modern operating systems, supporting Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10. All that PC gamers need to do is log into their Uplay account and redeem their game on Ubisoft's website, though note that the game will be available for free until December 22nd at 11 PM.

So glad they are going back to 1800... The futuristic Anno 22XX games were awful.

The best one is still Anno 1404 (Dawn of Discovery)Quote
