AMD's StoreMI 2.0 software is coming, promising reduced loading times

At the end of March, AMD discontinued its StoreMI software, guaranteeing that a "replacement solution" was in the works. Now we know that AMD plans to release their StoreMI 2.0 software in 2020, promising users faster storage through the use of a new "aching-based acceleration algorithm that enhances data integrity and prioritises most-used data."

AMD's original StoreMI release was an AMD-branded version of Enmotus' FuzeDrive software. In contrast, StoreMI 2.0 is an AMD-created solution, a software suite which should provide users with fewer limitations and faster operation.

Previously, StoreMI could be used to add SSD storage to mechanical HDD storage to deliver a fast hybrid storage solution. Furthermore, DRAM could be used as a fast cache for this hybrid storage pool, making the system even faster.

With StoreMI 2.0, AMD says that a PCIe 4.0 SSD can accelerate application boot times by up to 31% and game loading times by up to 13% when compared to an HDD-only system. With a streamlined interface and new algorithms, AMD hopes that its new StoreMI solution will allow PC users to have SSD-level speeds and HDD levels of capacity.

At this time, AMD's only revealing the existence of StoreMI 2.0. More information about the software will be made available at a later date.
