The Witcher has already been renewed for a second season on Netflix

Netflix’ The Witcher series hasn’t been released yet, but it has already been deemed worthy of a second season, at least according to series showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich. Update – This has now been confirmed by Netflix.

The Witcher is due to release on Netflix on December 20th, following series protagonist Geralt of Rivia, as played by Henry Cavill, in a new adventure which leans more on the franchise’s original novels than it does on CD Projekt Red’s popular video game series.

The second season of The Witcher is due to start production in London in early 2020, and release sometime in 2021. Henry Cavill will return as Geralt once again and Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan will reprise their roles as Yennefer and Ciri.

Lauren Hissrich has already confirmed that long-term plans for The Witcher have already been mapped out, with seven series’ for the show having already been planned. That said, those plans rely on the success of the show’s first and second seasons.

Below is Netflix’ official description of the series;

     Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
