Stan Lee, the Iconic Creator of Marvel's Greatest Heroes, Dies at 95

When it comes to the world of comic books and superheroes, there is one name that rises above all others, Stan Lee, the creative mind behind many of Marvel's most well-known heroes.   

According to a multitude of media reports, including both the Hollywood Reporter and Digital Spy, Stan Lee died earlier today at the age of 95. Younger members of our reader base will know him from for his cameo appearances in the latest Marvel blockbuster, but his career spans over half a century before the modern superhero craze started. 

Lee started his career in 1939, working for Timely Comics, which would later become Atlas Comics and then Marvel Comics in the 1960s. During his time at Marvel, Stan Lee created a list of comic book characters that's so long that it accounts for two Wikipedia pages, spanning over 300 names. Amongst this list lies heavyweights like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and the X-Men. As a creator, Stan Lee touched the lives of multiple generations, offering a legacy that will no doubt span for decades after his passing.

As a creator, Stan Lee created characters that were more than supermen that walked around with 24-7 power and little in the way of negativity. Lee's creations offered readers bucketloads of personality and more importantly, humanity; developing flawed people who despite their abilities can still struggle with day-to-day life. His cast of heroes and villains that have had a tremendous impact on every entertainment medium; be it video games, cinema, cartoons or of course Comics.
