How do Tokyo Police Catch Drones? With a huge net!

How do you catch a drone? Well the Tokyo Metropolitan Police department have decided that using their own drone, equipped with a net is a good solution.

In Japan certain areas are restricted due to the potential dangers of drones, like around monuments, airports, roads and around the prime ministers office. If a drone is flying in these restricted areas the police will warn the users via loudspeakers, but if the drone does not leave the restricted area the police will deploy the drone will be taken down.

Below is a video showcasing one of Tokyo’s new police drones in action;

In April of this year a drone carrying a bottle of a radioactive material landed on the Japanese Prime Minister’s office. During this drone demonstration Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said that they are reviewing their laws on drone use and developing countermeasures against the use of drones by terrorists.

   Taking into consideration the latest incident, we will review drone use and measures for possible terrorist attacks using drones. We’ll do our utmost to prevent terrorist attacks,

Right now it is illegal to operate drones over certain areas of Japan and to fly them above the height of 150m. Right now it is unknown if stricter laws will be made in the future.
