500Mbps broadband is now available in the UK through Virgin Media

Shame it's only available in a TV+Phone package

500Mbps broadband is now available in the UK through Virgin Media

Virgin Media currently stands as the UK's fastest broadband provider, offering consumers download speeds as high as 350Mbps, already outpacing their competitors on the Open Reach broadband network.

Now, Virgin Media plans to raise the bar once again, this time to 500Mbps, offering average download speeds of 516Mbps and upload speeds of 35Mbps. Sadly, this service is only available as part of the company's V.VIP bundle, forcing consumers to bundle their ultra-fast broadband with TV, Phone and SIM card packages. This package costs £99 per month for 12 months, and then £139 thereafter.

It is likely that Virgin will offer their customers a standalone VIVID 500 fibre package at a later date, which is good news for those who have no need for home phones or two of Virgin's Tivo boxes.

As content streaming and digital downloads become more popular, high-speed broadband will eventually become a necessity for a large proportion of UK households, especially as screen and content resolutions continue to increase.

I have the 300mbps but 95% of my downloads are over 450mbps so seems a bit of a waste of money for me to upgrade Quote

It is worth remembering that that includes a premium TV package, a home phone and a sim card that should have plenty of data. It should be a lot cheaper standalone.Quote

If it does come on it's own then it will probably be around £55 a month I would guess.

I am happy with my undisclosed speed that I have now but it's more than this and not it's not FTTH.Quote

the sim card is unlimited texts, minutes and data, plus it's including all sky cinema channels and sports the phone is unlimited calls how that works is talk for 59 minutes hang up and call them back not sure if it's mobile numbers as well but it's land lines excluding premier numbers

TBH I had sky cinema for 6 months free and I'd say it's not worth the money so much repeats and films that are on normal tvQuote
