Valve release Steam Controller CAD 3D Model
Valve have released the CAD Geometry/ 3D Models of the Steam Controller, allowing fans to create custom parts and design changes for their controller and other creative add-ons.
These 3D eDrawings will be available in Creo Express and Naitive modeling formats to give wide compatability with 3D tools and printers.
We are releasing the mechanical CAD geometry for the Steam Controller and are eager to see the accessories and variations that come from your creativity. We are making available, under Creative Commons licensing, the geometry of all externally visible parts. This allows you to create and share to your heart’s content, but you’ll need to get in touch with Valve if you want to sell your creations.
To kick off design efforts Valve has already uploaded models for two different alternative battery door parts that allow the Steam controllers wireless USB receiver to be easily stored when travelling with the controller.
Right now these files are available to download through dropbox and can be edited and shared at your hearts content, though Valve do state that you will need to get in touch with them if you want to sell custom parts.
You can join the discussion 3D part drawing becoming available for the Steam Controller on the OC3D Forums.
