Cherry is easily the premier brand when it comes to keyboard switches, with their Red, blue, brown, silent and gaming series switches being commonly used across the industry by many of the world's largest brands like Corsair, Ducky and Cooler Master.

The German company now wants to bring their world-class key switches to more users, creating their new Cherry MX Low-Profile switch design for use in laptops and low-profile desktop keyboards. This new switch design is around 35% shallower than standard Cherry MX switches, with the company showing off their Low-Profile red-series switches first.

These new switches require a key travel distance of 3.2mm and a 45 cN force to actuate, with a pre-travel distance of 1.2mm. Red-series keys have no audible click, though we have heard reports that blue versions of these Cherry MX Low-Profile keys are coming.

Like other Cherry MX switches these low-profile versions are validated for 50 million key presses, with Cherry expecting this new switch type to hit the market within the next few months with products from major keyboard makes like Corsair and Ducky.

Yes! Finally they have come! My issue with mechanical today is the keys are too high. I have an Roccat Isku, it’s perfect with it’s low profile keys Quote
