ASUS has created their first 75% custom gaming keyboards, and it has many features that its competitors lack
Custom 75% keyboards have become incredibly popular, with many new brands investing in DIY models that enable huge levels of customisability and seemingly limitless levels of customisability. ASUS has seen this growing market, and has seen areas where they can innovate, adding their ROG touch to create something incredible.
The ROG Azoth is ASUS' first 75% custom ROG wireless gaming keyboard, which offers users a compact 2-inch OLED screen for monitoring, cap locks status, connection mode and PC/Mac mode verification, custom animation playback and settings adjustments though a three-way control knob. This keyboard also supports hot-swappable mechanical key switches, ROG keyboard stabilisers, and a multi-layer gasket-mount design that delivers dampening for strong keyboard acoustics and and a slightly cushioned feel.
With the ROG Azoth, ASUS are aiming to give users a premium feeling keyboard, with ROG PBT double-shot keycaps that feature optimised (shortened) stem lengths for reduced key wobble.
With ASUS's gasket mount and its three-layer dampening design, ASUS has designed their Azoth keyboard to generate less noise than competing DIY 75% keyboard options. This is despite the fact that ASUS' Azoth keyboard uses a plastic base instead of a metal one, a design change that is necessitated by ASUS' decision to give this keyboards wireless connectivity options.
With their dampening technology, ASUS states that their ROG Azoth keyboard is quieter than competing solutions, making their keyboard more suitable for quiet spaces and more pleasant to use.
Unique gasket-mount design
A premium gasket-mount design featuring 10 silicone gaskets and three-layer foam dampening gives the ROG Azoth a slightly cushioned feel with sublime acoustics. A durable 3.5 mm-thick silicone pad inside the keyboard absorbs noise, while PORON® foam absorbs pings and echoes within the keyboard. Additionally, the silicone-foam-lined base completely eliminates echoes and provides a flat surface for the PORON foam.
ROG NX mechanical switches
The ROG NX mechanical switches used in the ROG Azoth have pre-lubed stems and base housings that offer a smoother click feel and eliminate spring bouncing noises. Plus, ROG-tuned force curves and a fast-actuation design ensure great keystroke feel and consistency. The switches are hot-swappable[i] for a unique and customized feel.
ASUS' ROG Azoth keyboard also ships with a DIY Switch Lube kit, giving users the tools and materials that they need to lubricate their key switches with Krylox GPL-205-GD00 lubricant. While the switches on ASUS' ROG Azoth keyboards are pre-lubed (both stem and base), this kit will allow users to re-lubricate they keyboard keys when necessary.
ROG Keyboard Stabilizer
The ROG Keyboard Stabilizer is pre-lubed and specially tuned for gaming: it produces less friction, allowing long keys such as Spacebar, Shift and Enter to stay true to the original switch feel. The Spacebar has extra lubing and modification for enhanced acoustics and feel.
ROG PBT doubleshot keycaps provide a premium feel and offer long-lasting durability. The design of the keys has been optimized with mid-height keycaps and a shorter stem to reduce key wobble and provide more comfortable typing experiences.
Bundled lube kit
The ROG Azoth is the ideal keyboard for those looking to get into keyboard DIY customization. Bundled essentials include Krytox™ GPL-205-GD0 lubricant, three additional switches, keycap and switch pullers, a switch opener, and a lube rack for switches
With wired, connectivity options and support for both ROG's SuperNova wireless technology and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, ASUS' ROG Azoth keyboard can be utilised across a wide range of devices, including Macs.
Tri-mode connectivity and other features
ROG SpeedNova wireless technology offers up to 2000+ hours of stable, uninterrupted near-zero-latency gameplay in 2.4 GHz RF mode (with RGB and OLED off). Bluetooth mode enables users to connect the ROG Azoth to three devices simultaneously. Gamers can also charge the Azoth while in play by using the wired USB mode.
The ROG Azoth has two pairs of built-in keyboard feet to provide users with three tilt angles for a comfortable typing position. Plus, a MacOS mode remaps the keys for use with MacBooks and Macs.
ASUS' ROG Azoth gaming keyboard aims to offer gamers a compact and premium 75% keyboard that offers the same levels of customisability that the DIY market loves while also offering some unique ROG additions. If you want a premium mini keyboard, this is it, and we expect to see ASUS bring the lessons learned from this keyboard to some of their larger products in the future.
