Hardware emulation is difficult, especially when trying to emulate something as complex as a console. Developers often find different solutions to the same problems, resulting in games which use the hardware in a weird yet wonderful ways to run on Wii and Gamecube hardware.

The Dolphin emulator has never worked perfectly for all Wii and Gamecube games, but now the development of the emulator has now reached a significant milestone, with the newest release of the emulator now booting all Gamecube games.

Not all Gamecube games work perfectly, but now the emulator has become accurate enough to at least play every Gamecube game, with these recent improvements to the emulator's memory management system helping to prevent a lot of crashes in a wide range of titles.

Emulation is a tricky task and one that has always been a legal grey area, but it is nonetheless fascinating to see how these complex pieces of software develop over time and to see popular console releases play at higher resolutions on modern displays.

Dolphin's recent update is fully detailed in the team's blogpost here.
