Tekken 7 may not feature cross-platform play

In recent years cross-platform play has grown in popularity, be it in games like Portal 2, Rocket League and even Final Fantasy XIV.

This feature allows gamers on all platforms to play together and allows gamers to find matches much easier as the game ages and the online population declines. After all, it is easier to find enough players for an online game if you put PS4, Xbox One and PC gamers in the same pool.

It has been announced by Katsuhiro Harada, Tekken 7's project leader, that the game may not feature cross-platform play between the PS4, Xbox One and PC due to potential security risks and the communities perception that a large portion of PC gamers are "cheaters".

Below is a translated tweet from Harada, stating that some console owners may not like the idea of playing against PC players and that first party company policies may be an issue which prevents cross-platform play.

It's not a matter of the technology for getting the PS4/XB1/PC players to match up against each other being the issue, but rather first party company policies and potential security risks alongside the community perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters that are hindering the decision to allow cross-platform play.

Sony in the past has already blocked cross play between PS4, Xbox One and PC players on Rocket League, even though PC players do have the ability to play against Xbox One and PS4 gamers separately. Perhaps Sony may be an obstacle in the way of cross-platform play for Tekken 7, though this remains unconfirmed at this time.

Right now the game has a release timeframe of Early 2017, with planned releases on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. At this time Capcom has released no details on the PC version of the game, so at this time we cannot comment on any of the games technical features.

Console games can cheat just as much by incorporating a lag switch. I have seen so many doing it across all platforms its just ruining multiplayer for me.

Its so simple you can make one from your basic lamp switch.Quote
