Starbreeze teams up with Acer to manufacture StarVR headsets
Starbreeze has teamed up with Acer to manufacture their 5K resolution StarVR headsets which have a field of view that is almost 2x wider than the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
The Star VR headset has a screen resolution of 2560x1440 per eye, giving this headset a full resolution of 5120x1440 and vertical and horizontal field of views of 130 degrees and 210 degrees respectively, giving this new headset what could potentially be a much more immersive experience than the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive.
Early prototypes of this headset have presented some refresh rate issues with the higher resolution displays and the higher display resolution has been found by some users to not present much of a visual or immersive upgrade compared to the existing HTC Vive and Oculus Rift Headsets. This new headset is also considerably bulkier than the HTC Vive.
StarVR is designed with commercial applications in mind rather than home use, as the headset's upgraded specifications and higher PC hardware requirements are likely to give this upcoming headset a smaller userbase when it hits the market.
These headsets are expected to be seen first in Starbreeze VR "Starcades", where Startale will be showcasing VR to paying customers in the US.
