Shadow of Mordor requires 6GB of VRAM?

Last week it was revealed that the upcoming Lord of the Rings game, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will require a colossal 6GB of VRAM in order to play the game with Ultra Textures at 1080p.

So if you want to play Shadow of Mordor on Maximum settings you’re going to need a high end GPU, limiting your GPU choice to Titans, custom 6GB GTX 780 or 780Ti and 8GB R9 290X GPUs. Remember that this is the requirement for 1080p, rather than 1440p or 4K, so you will require even more VRAM for these monster resolutions.

Shadow of Mordor requires 6GB of VRAM?

High settings for this game requires a much more doable 3GB of VRAM, making any of today's high end offerings from AMD or Nvidia capable of this.

While it is great to see a developer push the boundaries when it comes to hardware requirements, but we cannot deny the possibility that this could be developers being Lazy with the PC version or that it could be a screenshot of an un-optimized early build. We will have to wait for dedicated PC reviews for Shadow of Mordor to confirm the quality of the port and the hardware requirements.

Pretty much my thoughts. I hope it was an un-optimized preview build, I guess we will see.Quote

I prefer the words, can use 6GB, because it certainly doesn't need it that's for sure.Quote

I've pre-ordered this last week, and watched loads of footage over the weekend. While it looks pretty.. 6GB VRam sounds daft! lolQuote
