Over the past few years, the world of monitors has seen innovation at an unusually rapid pace, moving away from an era where 16:9 displays accounted for the majority of new screens and 1080p resolutions ruled the roost.

Today, we have the addition of FreeSync and G-Sync to the marketplace, alongside several new ultrawide form factors such as 21x9 and even 32:9, offering a wider field of view that is particularly appealing on large curved display panels. The addition of HDR also allows monitors to provide brighter highlights and greater contrast ratios than ever before, as well as broader colour gamut to create increasingly realistic images.

Samsung has now added a new ultrawide format into the mix with their 43-inch C43J89 monitor, which offers a 32:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3840x1200. In practice, this display acts like two 1920x1200 monitors side-by-side, though being a single monitor there are no pesky bezels to worry about.

The monitor itself uses a VA panel and offers a refresh rate of 120Hz, though sadly Samsung has not listed this monitor with support for HDR or a VRR (variable refresh rate) standard like FreeSync or G-Sync. This monitor will support 8-bit colour, offer a 5ms grey-to-grey response time and offer a standard sRGB colour gamut.

The C43J89 will accept display inputs via HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, though the display also offers display connectivity via its two USB Type-C ports, allowing the monitor to act as a screen for a device while also changing it. Samsung has also built this display with a VESA compliant mounting systems, enabling the C43J89 to be used with monitor arms and 3rd party stands.
