Many Oculus Rift Pre-orders are now delayed

Many Oculus Rift Pre-orders are now delayed, with many many of those with April shipping dates facing delays from 6-8 weeks, meaning that they will now receive their Oculus HMDs in June.

Some Kickstarter backers have also stated that their original March shipping dates have been pushed all the way back to August, with Oculus continuing to state that they are having unexpected component shortages.

Below is a statement that has been sent to affected Oculus backers.

We’ve updated your Order History with a new shipment window for your Rift. This window may be later than your original estimate, due to the early component shortage.

As a reminder, we’ll send you an email when we charge the payment method on file for your purchase and prepare your shipment. We’ll also cover all shipping and handling costs for orders placed through 11:59 PDT on April 1, 2016.

Right now it is hugely disappointing to see Oculus unable to ship enough units of the Oculus Rift to buyers, especially those who had ordered their units within the first 15 minutes that pre-orders were live. Many now suspect that Oculus has intentionally launched their VR HMD before they were ready to ship the device in large volumes in order to launch before their competitor, the HTC Vive, an HMD that still states that current pre-orders will ship as early as May.

Oculus Rift Pre-orders are still in high demand, with new Pre-orders now being backdated until August. New Pre-orders will also no longer include Eve: Valkyrie as a free/bundled game with the HMD.

Oculus Rift Pre-orders are still in high demand, so much so that right now Pre-orders for the unit are now backdated until August. Not only will those who want to use the Oculus Rift need to wait for 4 months before they receive their units, but new Pre-orderers will no longer receive Eve: Valkyrie as a free bundled game, giving new buyers less value.

Oculus has been shipping the Rift in much lower numbers than expected due to an unforeseen component shortage, leaving those who paid for early Oculus Rift HMDs without the units on release.

Dropping Eve: Valkyrie as a bundled title also comes at around the same time that the game was announced for the HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift's Main competitor, which now comes with a much more attractive game bundle which includes 3 games.
