Low Oculus Rift Stock Suggests that "Rift S" is Near

Stocks of Oculus' Rift VR headset is getting low across multiple online retailers, a trend that was first spotted by Variety, suggesting one of two things, first, that the Oculus Rift is selling like hotcakes, or that Oculus is lowering their retail/production volumes in preparation for something new.

This has fueled the recent speculation about a new VR headset from Oculus called the "Rift S", a new VR headset that's designed to replace the original Rift while offering an inside-out tracking system, making it more similar to Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality Headsets. This move would make the Rift much easier to set up and use, while also offering the potential to make their headset cheaper to produce.

At this time the Oculus Rift is available for around £350 at multiple UK retailers. When asked for a comment Oculus told Variety that the company "are excited about the year ahead."

The original Oculus Rift first released in 2016, making 2019 the perfect year for a new headset. Oculus has definitely learned a lot since the Rift initially launched, though we hope that any new headset plans from the company will allow VR hardware to become available at lower price points, though some users would welcome a higher resolution variant. While £350 is a lot cheaper than Oculus' launch pricing, it remains incredibly expensive for most PC gamers.

Looking forward to it. The Rift is the best VR system to date with superior design, comfort and controllers unlike the garbage Vive Lineup.

The ONLY thing I do not like about the upcoming Rift systems is the ring design on the controllers.Quote
