LG announce their new Nano Cell Colour Technology to rival Quantum Dot

LCD displays have been with us for a long time, evolving over the year to offer increased resolutions, refresh rates and now enhanced colour reproduction. LG has announced their new "Nano Cell Colour Technology" to rival Samsung's "Quantum Dot" tech, with LG claiming better colour reproduction than Samsung's current offerings.

To put things in simple terms LG's "Nano Cell Colour Technology" is very similar to Samsung's "Quantum Dot Technology", with LG's Nano Cell Colour tech "employ(ing) uniformly sized particles approximately one nanometer in diameter" to produce highly saturated colours, while Samsung uses Quantum Dots (tiny particles) to create the same effect.

This is very similar to LG and Samsung's competing IPS and PLS technologies, which both created similar quality images to the extent that many would be unable to tell the difference between both panel types.

LG's new Nano Cell Colour technology will be used in their new lineup of Super UHD TVs, which will launch later this year.  These displays will start with the release of their SJ9500, SL8500 and SJ8000, with all supporting HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

At this time it is unknown when this new display type will make its way into PC displays, with Samsung Quantum Dot monitors already being available to consumers.
