Intel hires Chris Hook for Discrete Graphics Marketing

In case you were unaware, Intel plans to get into the Discrete Graphics business, creating their Core and Visual Computing Division under Raja Koduri in late 2017. Intel is serious about entering the graphics market, hiring some of the industries best talent to create compelling graphics and visual processing solutions.

Now Intel has hired another graphics heavyweight, Chris Hook, AMD’s former Senior Director of Global Product Marketing and Head of Global Marketing and Public Relations at AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group.

Hook’s new duties at Intel include “Discrete Graphics and Visual Technologies Marketing at Intel Corporation”, hoping to associate the company with viable gaming/graphics products for a time where Raja and Intel’s graphics team can create compelling integrated and discrete graphics products.

Chris Hook did a fantastic job at AMD given the company’s limited resources, making him a pivotal addition to Intel as they enter this competitive new market. Intel’s integrated graphics solutions do not enjoy a good reputation amongst PC gamers, making Chris’ marketing strategies instrumental for Intel’s success in the GPU market. While good products can speak for themselves, it is undeniable that marketing plays a pivotal role when it comes to selling a new product.

The addition of Raja Koduri, Jim Keller and Chris Hook, Intel is set for an exciting future, though it will likely take years for consumers to see the results of their effort.

With Nvidia’s growth in the enterprise market and AMD’s competitiveness in the CPU market with Ryzen, Intel is no longer in a position where they can rest on their laurels and stand firm in the knowledge that they are just a CPU company. To grow Intel needs to take bold steps into new markets, especially given AMD’s ability to combine powerful CPU and GPU IP in products like Raven Ridge.
