HTC is investigating reports of Deluxe Audio Strap Foam Deterioration

HTC is investigating reports of Foam deterioration on the HTC Vive's Deluxe Audio Strap after several users have reported the issue on social media.

Several reports have claimed that the foam padding on HTC's £100 aftermarket deluxe audio strap for the HTC Vive degrades over time, especially if the user sweats heavily during intensive VR gaming. Below we have a video from the YouTuber TribalInsticts who first reported the issue on Tuesday.

Right now it looks like the covering of HTC's foam padding will deteriorate when in contact with human sweat, resulting in a black compound coming off the headset after long playing sessions. So far users of the Deluxe Audio strap have ben able to mitigate this issue by cleaning their foam with warm water, removing the external layer of material.

Thankfully the foam material is removable for cleaning, but cleaning off the black substance will result in the strap feeling different when touched, potentially making the strap's foam material less comfortable to wear.

HTC are investigating this issue and should release their findings soon, though the company is expected to make changes to their strap design in the future to mitigate this issue on newly created audio straps.

I see a lot of RMAs. It is strange they didn't notice this in their testing.Quote
