Gears of War 4 will be coming to PC on October 11th

Some new campaign gameplay for Gears of War 4 has just been released, showcasing Marcus Fenix and several other characters hunting "the swarm" through a stormy environment.

This footage is from the Xbox One version of the game and as such is at 1080p 30FPS, though the PC version will feature an unlocked framerate.

In this short gameplay demo of Gears of War 4, our heroes JD, Del, Kait and Marcus Fenix are in pursuit of creatures called the Swarm. With their village destroyed and Kait’s mom abducted, the squad gives chase through the wilds of Sera and must battle through an incredible storm.

In a recent interview Gears of Wars 4's technical director Michael Rayner confirmed that the PC version of the game will feature an unlocked framerate, even when playing with players on the fixed framerate Xbox one version.

Players on PC and Xbox can play this game together in Co-op or in the game's new horde mode, but the two platforms will be split apart for competitive multiplayer modes due to balancing issues.

On the Xbox we’re running at 30hz, 1080p for the campaign, 60hz, 1080p for multiplayer. On Windows 10, PC gamers will run as fast as your hardware will support. So you can lock it to your Vsync or your monitor refresh rate, or you can run it fully unlocked, you know, 120 frames or whatever your system can support.

Because of the way the engine works, at the core it supports a variable time stamp. The way that the network updates happen between co-op [or] two players, we can have the PC game running at the higher frame rate against the Xbox One at a fixed frame rate. And everything works.

Gears of War 4 will be releasing on both Xbox One on October 11th, with the PC version of the game being expected to release on the same day.  This game will be one of the first games that will be released on Microsoft's new Xbox Play Anywhere program, which allows Gamers to own PC and Xbox One games across both platforms with cross-saves, PC + Xbox One Co-op. If you won the game on one platform, you will automatically own it on the other.

Below is a list of other games that Microsoft has confirmed to be part of their Play Anywhere program, all of which are likely to be exclusively available on the Windows 10 store on PC.

  • - Forza Horizon 3
  • - Halo Wars 2
  • - ReCore
  • - Scalebound
  • - Sea of Thieves
  • - State of Decay 2
  • - We Happy Few

Be good if 2 and 3 were also released even if they weren't remasters but just ports.Quote
