Scaler Vendors Pledge Support for AMD FreeSync

FREESYNC is here!

Freesync is finally here... well almost here as Iiyama's 28" ProLite B2888UHSU-B1 4K monitor arrives on the shelves of Overclockers UK.

This monitor will support the upcoming AMD/VESA FREESYNC Technology, but there is a catch, it doesn't support it right now. Iiyama will offer a free of charge upgrade service to upgrade your iiyama 4k monitor to support VESA Adaptive Sync free of charge at a later date, with users just having to cover shipping costs.

FREESYNC is here!    FREESYNC is here!

This monitor currently costs £389.99, with the nearest G-Sync compatible 4K monitor at overclockers UK being the 28" Acer Predator 4k2k XB280HK monitor, which costs £499.99. This is a price difference of £110, which given that the panels have an almost identical spec sheet and the adjustable stands are functionally identical is a huge difference.

We will see when more FreeSync compatable monitors release if this holds true to all FREESYNC panels are cheaper than their G-Sync equivalents, but right now things are looking good for FREESYNC/ VESA ADAPTIVE SYNC.

FREESYNC is here!  FREESYNC is here! FREESYNC is here!

Remember guys that the features of AMD FreeSync will only be available on certain AMD GPUs, all AMD Radeon graphics cards in the AMD HD 7000, HD 8000, R7 or R9 Series will support Project FreeSync for video playback and power-saving purposes, but not all these cards can be used for Variable refresh rates while gaming.

Only AMD's newer GCN based cards will work with project freesync displays, and by that I mean the R9 295X2, 290X, R9 290, R9 285,  R7 260X, R7 260 or newer/future AMD GPUs.

Although I'm a Nvidia consumer I'm happy to see this hit the market not only are they cheaper than G-sync monitors but AMD graphics cards are also cheaper than nvidia counterparts if I remember correctly. All I can say is shots fired NvidiaQuote

it is GCN based, but is essentially a HD 7870 remake and is not new enough for FreeSync.Quote
