EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Kingpin Edition Launched

The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti K|NGP|N graphics card is designed for overclocking perfection. With a 14+3 power phase design, this new digitally controlled VRM can deliver up to 600A of current, all delivered through 3 power inputs. A pre-binned GPU, ACX 2.0+, and the ability to go single slot with the included single slot bracket, makes this one of the most versatile graphics cards on the planet. You can get a card customized for you with the Ultimate OC Project.

With this new card EVGA is also introducing a brand new way to purchase, by allowing you to select the best card to suit your needs. For the first time ever, EVGA is introducing a way to select your approximate GPU ASIC (approximate OC performance) Quality before purchasing. Every single piece of silicon, whether it be a CPU or GPU, varies when it comes to maximum overclocking. On GPU's, ASIC quality is one way to determine potential overclock performance. Please note this ASIC Quality DOES NOT guarantee any specific overclock performance, it is merely a guide. The higher the ASIC Quality, the higher the potential overclock performance and the rarer the GPU. Of course, this can and will vary.

Built for Overclocking

  • - Custom LED Control - Change the color of your card through software with EVGA PrecisionX.
  • - 12 Layer PCB - Robust PCB layout with extra copper for smooth power delivery.
  • - 14+3 Phase Fully Digital VRM - Improved efficiency, power capacity and an average of 28C cooler operating temperature.
  • - ACX 2.0+ Cooling + Metal Shroud - Improved cooling with lower fan power consumption and 4X longer fan lifespan. All surrounded in a premium metal shroud.
  • - dB Inverter - EVGA's ACX 2.0+ fan turns off below 60C generating 0dB of noise.
  • - EVBot Connector Onboard - Allows robust tuning and control over all aspects of the graphics card.
  • - Included K|NGP|N Backplate - Built on backplate with backlight allows full control over brightness and color.
  • - MMCP - Memory/MOSFET Cooling Plate+ provides direct contact with memory and MOSFETs reducing temperature.
  • - OTS - Onboard thermal sensors allow for automatic realtime extreme overclock tuning to achieve the highest OC possible.
  • - Probe-It Connector - Easily monitor your voltages in real-time with a Voltmeter.
  • - Quick Switch Triple BIOS - Easily switch between three BIOSes with the flick of a switch.
  • - SHP - Straight Heat Pipes offer 6% better heat dissipation than bent heat pipes with reduced thermal resistance.
  • - Single Slot Ready - Included single slot bracket allows you to convert to a true single slot card with waterblock.

Availability on the EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti K|NGP|N will start on July 22nd, 2015.

My Thoughts

Below we have the prices for EVGA GTX 980Ti KINGPIN Edition GPUs of ASIC Qualities of 72% and above, which come at some very high prices considering that the MSRP of a GTX 980Ti is currently $649.99.

80%+ ASIC $1049.99

76%+ ASIC $999.99

74%+ ASIC $899.99

72%+ ASIC $849.99

While ASIC quality is a good indication of how far your GPU will overclock, it is not a guarantee that that your GPU will achieve the same overclocks as a different GPU of the same ASIC quality.

What EVGA have done here is deliver a GPU which avoids the silicon lottery as much as possible by delivering you a GPU which has the highest possible potential, while it does not guarantee a specific overclock it pretty much guarantees that you will get a GPU which will overclock above the average GTX 980Ti.

With good silicon under the hood, a mighty 14+3 Phase VRM, large copper heatsink and even the ability to turn this GPU into a single slot water cooler GPU (if you purchase a waterblock for this GPU), anyone with enough money to purchase this GPU will no doubt be satisfied with it's performance.

What evga has done is really clever!
Also that means that if you buy the cheapest card you are going to get a "bad" chip, some might say it loses the "magic" of the silicon lottery :PQuote

Err no. You won't get a bad chip. And personally at this price I do not even want sillicon lottery. I want assurance that my card can OC well. However, even these low end ASIC cards will still perform very well. But it only gives you the potential to OC high, there is still no guarantee.Quote

Total rip off lol.

If you want to spend that sort of money get a TitanX, they still top the LN2 benching charts as well.Quote

Honestly, I think all Kingpin cards should be top of the line, so this should have been a Titan X, not a 980ti. Reason being if they price a 980ti tii high, people will see it as pointless because they can get a TX for the same price. If it was an incredibly overpriced TX, it would be expensive, but at least there wouldn't be anything above it in terms of performance.Quote
