Pictures of the first custom cooled GTX 1080 have appeared online, though this Galax GTX 1080 may not be the founders edition replacement that you have been looking for.

This custom version of the GTX 1080 has been designed to bring GTX 1080 performance at a lower price point by using a more budget friendly cooling design and removing the GPUs rear backplate. As you can see below this GPU does not have the aesthetically pleasing GTX 1080 "founders Edition" shroud, instead using a cheaper to produce plastic shroud, while maintaining the same general cooler design.

With a lower TBP than the GTX 980Ti this cooler will certainly be enough to cool this new powerhouse of a GPU, though it is likely that this cooler will run at slightly higher temperatures.

This new GPU will use the same reference PCB design as the Nvidia founders edition GTX 1080, so it should be compatible with future GTX 1080 water block designs.

Looks just as "nice" as the old 290x stock cooler. And like the 290x cooler, it doesn't look like it belongs on a high end card. I'll mark that down as a FAIL I think.Quote

Nobody should buy a card without a full backplate if you wanna use a dedicated soundcard otherwise you're just asking for major EMI.Quote

Or... you should buy a soundcard decent enough to have it's own EMI shielding, like most of the decent ones have now...Quote

This did not take long. Usually its a couple of months before you see nonreference cards.Quote

This will be good for watercoolers as I'm guessing this will be the cheap version due to having a bit of a poo cooler.Quote
