AOC has released their new Q3279VWFD8 monitor; a 31.5-inch 1440p IPS screen that is designed to act as an affordable all-rounder for both gamers and anyone who wants a high-spec display without breaking the bank.

The Q3279VWFD8 is similar to the company's existing Q3279VWF, with the largest change being a move from a VA-type panel to an IPS panel, offering end users a wider colour gamut, increased colour accuracy and an overall better viewing experience.

With a resolution of 1440p and a refresh rate of up to 75Hz, the Q3279VWFD8 offers sharper images and a lower refresh time than standard 1080p IPS monitors, with the addition of AMD FreeSync adding neat optional extra for gamers. Sadly, this display's VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) Window is incredibly small, ranging from 48 to 75Hz, which is enough to handle some FPS dips but remains far from a full LFC (low framerate compensation) enabled FreeSync experience.

The monitor offers a grey-to-grey response time of 5 ms with an 8-bit+FRC panel to deliver a simulated 10-bit colour experience, with the monitor covering 88$ of the NTSC colour gamut, which is a lot larger than the 72% coverage (equivalent to sRGB) that is offered by most displays. The Q3279VWFD8 lacks any support for HDR, providing a typical screen brightness of 250 cd/m².

AOC's low-cost design for the Q3279VWFD8 inevitably comes with several noteworthy downsides, with the monitor lacking compatibility with VESA mounts and the display's minimal FreeSync VRR range, though the screen does offer a wide range of input options that include DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4 as well as DVI and VGA connections. FreeSync is only supported via HDMI and DisplayPort. The monitor also offers audio playback through a 3.5mm audio jack, with the monitor itself lacking integrated speakers.

These are amazing for the money. Few guys I know bought the older 32" model (1440p still) for about £160. Mental, given the image quality is excellent. No VESA though which sucks.Quote

I recently bought a pair of 35" AOC 1440p 100hz Gsync panels, and I'm really liking them. Aside from backlight bleed, which I can't notice while gaming, I have nothing but good things to say so far.Quote
