AOC announces their 31.5-inch AGON AG322QC4 FreeSync 2 DisplayHDR 400 monitor

AOC has officially unveiled their first AGON series FreeSync 2 monitor, offering support for both AMD's FreeSync technology with LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) and VESA's DisplayHDR 400 standard. Meet the AOC AGON AG322QC4.

Unlike other HDR displays, FreeSync 2 offers users support for an optimised display pipeline which removes the need for on-display tone mapping on HDR displays when FreeSync is activated, lowering display latency. This feature makes FreeSync 2 an ideal technology for gamers, offering a smooth tear-free experience and HDR with reduced display latencies.

The AGON AG322QC4 is a 31.5-inch monitor which uses a 1800mm curved VA display with a WLED backlight, offering a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and a resolution of 1440p, offering a 4x resolution boost over 720p. As a VESA DisplayHDR 400 monitor, the AGON AG322QC4 provides peak brightness levels of over 400 nits, which is low for an HDR display, but higher than what is typical for non-HDR monitors.

FreeSync 2 requires support for wider colour spaces, with the AG322QC4 shipping with an 8-bit panel VA panel which offers low levels of colour shift at wide viewing angles, just like IPS monitors. Sadly DisplayHDR 400 is a basic HDR standard, with HDR10 requiring a 10-bit colour depth and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits or higher with some form of local dimming, either with a dynamic backlight or with an OLED display. AOC mentions "improved black levels" in their press release, though it is unknown whether or not this means that the AGON AG322QC4 will make use of a form of local dimming.

The AGON AG322QC4 comes with a stock VESA 100x100 compatible mount which offers tilt and height adjustments, with a headphone hanger at can fold out of the side of the display. The monitor has thin bezels, making this curved monitor ideal for multi-display setups.

Input-wise, the AGON AG322QC4 supports VGA, HDMI 2.0 (x2) and Displayport 1.2 (x2) inputs, with the display also containing a 2x USB 3.0 dock a headphone out and two 5W speakers.

AOC also offers a built-in game mode for their AGON AG322QC4 display, offering users lower latencies by bypassing the display's internal image processor while also offering customisable settings for different game types like RTS, FPS or racing titles.

The AOC AGON AG322QC4 is expected to become available at retailers in June with an MSRP of £529.
