AMD showcases impressive Multi-GPU scaling in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Ever since we first learnt about DirectX 12's features we were excited about its potential to improve multi-GPU performance, in theory allowing DirectX 12 games to have perfect GPU performance scaling. DirectX 12 allows this by removing the need for GPU drivers to need game-specific SLI or Crossfire profiles and leaving Multi-GPU performance down to the game developer alone.

While this should, in theory, allow all DirectX 12 games to scale well in SLI or Crossfire setups, in practice it has not been the case so far, with most DirectX 12 games lacking Multi-GPU support of any kind, especially at launch. Now Multi-GPU support has been added to Deux Ex: Mankind Divided, giving us an opportunity to see exactly how DirectX 12 benefits multi-GPU configurations.

Now Multi-GPU support has been added to Deux Ex: Mankind Divided, giving us an opportunity to see exactly how DirectX 12 benefits multi-GPU configurations. Right now DirectX 12 Multi-GPU is only supported by AMD in this game, though Nvidia DirectX 12 multi-GPU support is coming.

As we can see in the results above and below AMD's Multi-GPU scaling is perfect with AMD's RX 470 and RX 480 GPUs, at least when it comes to average framerate.

These results show that perfect Multi-GPU performance scaling is possible, though it is unlikely that all developers will be able to achieve the same results with their games. Hopefully, this is a sign that Multi-GPU setups will become more widely supported in games moving forward, as Eidos Montreal has proven that it is possible to achieve perfect multi-GPU performance scaling.

Nvidia really need to sort thier dx12 performance before people start going red as these numbers are impressive. Vega could be the pascal killerQuote

Oh please let this somehow translate into Nvidia having competition again (eventually). Pretty please!Quote

With 2 RX480s costing £500 I doubt it, and games using DX12 are thin on the ground. The only thing NVIDIA need to do is optimize their drivers with proper DX12 cover and work on their scaling again, that will be enough to put AMD firmly behind again.Quote
