AMD's Vega GPUs will ship in Q2 2017

AMD has announced that their first Vega-based GPUs will ship in Q2 2017, hinting at a launch window between May and June. This will no doubt disappoint those that hoped for an earlier launch for Vega, especially those who do not want to go down the Nvidia route when looking for a high-end GPU.

Right now it is unknown if they plan on launching their Vega series GPUs as an extension of the Polaris RX 400 series, launching as an RX 490 or a 4-Series RX Fury Series GPU. Alternatively, Vega could launch as part of AMD's RX 500-series of GPUs, perhaps as an RX 590.

In Q1 2017, it seems that AMD will be focusing on the launch of their Ryzen CPUs and their AM4 motherboard platform, leaving Vega's announcement for later in the year where it can have more of a spotlight, as well as give the company additional time to polish their drivers and finalise the GPU's design (finalise clock speeds, power consumption etc).

2017 is going to be an interesting year for AMD, with new, highly competitive CPU and GPU architectures and plans to launch new desktop-grade CPUs, GPUs and APUs as well as dedicated workstation offerings to take some market share back from Intel and Nvidia.

This is to late and is going to hurt AMD, unless it is blisteringly quick.Quote

My thoughts exactly, the only way it will pay off is that if they pull something incredible out their hat, but I won't be getting my hopes up thoughQuote
