Nvidia Announce Tegra X1 Mobile Chip

Nvidia has officially shown off their New Tegra X1 Mobile SoC, with 8 ARM CPU cores and 256 Maxwell CUDA GPU Cores. Nvidia Claim that this is the best performing Mobile SoC with 2x more power than Apple's A8 SoC which is used in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Nvidia's X1 SoC has a TDP of just 10 Watts, which considering it can run the Unreal Engine 4 Elemental Demo in real time, a feat which the Current gen Consoles were boasting before their launch, makes this one very powerful, efficient chip.

Compared to Nvidia's existing Tegra K1 SoC, used in Nvidia's Shield Tablet, the Tegra X1 is 2x more efficient and over 40% more performance than the Tegra K1. These are very impressive gains here considering the Tegra K1 is currently the best gaming ARM SoC on the market, if not the best SoC on the market.

"Because of NVIDIA’s learning and experience with its 4-PLUS-1 CPU architecture first introduced on NVIDIA Tegra 3, and expertise in creating high power, efficient silicon layout designs, Tegra X1 delivers higher performance and power efficiency than other SoCs (System-on-a-Chip) that are based on the A57/A53 CPU implementation. Tegra X1 provides almost 2x the power efficiency for the same CPU performance. And for the same power consumed, Tegra X1 delivers almost 1.4x higher CPU performance."

One more of the features that the X1 supports is 4K 60FPS video playback, thanks to it's built in 4K Decoder. This makes it one of the only ARM chips which supports this. This unit also supports the newer H.265 and VP9 formats at 60 FPS.
