MSI has achieved several world record Kaby Lake overclocks on their Z270 XPOWER Gaming Titanium, clocking their i7 7700K CPU as high as 7GHz.

These overclocks were achieved by the BenchBros, a German overclocking team using an early sample of Intel's Kaby Lake i7 7700K and a pre-release motherboard BIOS, which means that higher overclocks may be possible in the future.

This is still very early days for the Kaby Lake overclocking scene, so we expect these records to be broken within the next few weeks, especially as new BIOS revisions are released.

BenchBros were able to max their i7 7700K overclock at 7GHz with two CPU cores/threads enabled, with overclocks of up to 6.77GHz with all four cores and 8 threads enabled.

The first overclock that we will be looking at is for WPrime, with BenchBros' 6.7GHZ overclock becoming the world's fastest quad-core CPU in this test.

In this test, their CPU was using a multiplier of 67 and a base clock speed of 100MHz, with their DDR4 memory running at almost 3600MHz.

For wPrime's 1024M test BenchBros needed to lower their overclock to 6.63GHz in order to pass the test, finishing the test in 93.109 seconds, becoming the fastest Quad-core CPU on HWBOT.

This overclock was achieved using a bos speed of 100MHz and a multiplier of 66, with their DDR4 memory running at 3600MHz.

The first overclock that we will be looking at is for PiFast, with BenchBros' 7GHZ overclock becoming the world's fastest CPU in this test.

In this test, their CPU was using a multiplier of 65 and a base clock speed of 105MHz, with their DDR4 memory running at around 3900MHz.

In CineBench R15 the CPU maxed out at 6.77GHz, with a multiplier of 62 and a base clock of 107MHz. In this test, their DDR4 memory was running at 3865MHz.

Again this ranks BenchBros' i7 7700K as the world's fastest Quad core CPU in this test, achieving a score of around 1500.

From what we can see here Kaby Lake is an excellent overclocker when compared to Skylake in the professional overclocking scene, managing to easily smash previous records from the i7 6700K using pre-release BIOS software and early CPU samples.

It is likely that these records will be broken as time goes on, especially as BIOS' mature and Intel's Kaby Lake 7700K CPUs finally hit the market. Let's hope we can see some more world class overclocking in the near future from BenchBros and other pro overclockers.

Wait... I thought the 7700K were gonna be a quad core? Ie 4 cores/8 threads and not what that CPU-Z is showing, 2 cores/2 threads?...Quote

That was their max overclock with some cores disabled.

Lower down they have slightly lower overclocks with all cores/threads enabled.Quote
