More Ryzen 2nd Gen leaks – Threadripper Refresh Coming!

This week has been full of potential Ryzen 2nd generation leaks, with these new slides from Informatica Cero (link to Spanish Article) revealing what could be the codenames of AMD’s next two generations of Ryzen CPUs and APUs.

The data in these slides match yesterday’s Ryzen 2nd Gen leaks, revealing the same 2000 series processors. If the information on these slides is correct, AMD plans to utilise an “Inflection Optimisation” model which is similar to Intel’s dead “Tick-Tock” cycle, at least for the next couple of CPU generations.

According to these slides, Threadripper will be seeing a 2nd generation refresh later this year, using the same refreshed CPU cores as Pinnacle Ridge, which will release on Desktop this April. Succeeding Pinnacle Ridge and Threadripper 2nd Gen will be Matisse (Zen 2) and Castle Peak, which will both be replaced by Vermeer and NG HEDT (Next Generation High-End Desktop) in 2020.

This roadmap also reveals AMD’s plans to stick with their AM4/TR4 socket designs, which could mean that existing AM4 motherboards could support more than three generations of AMD products, leaving Intel in the dust when it comes to backwards compatibility.

In the slide below, four Ryzen 7 and 5 SKUs are detailed, the Ryzen 7 2700X, Ryzen 7 2700, Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 5 2600. It looks like AMD will be simplifying their Ryzen 2nd generation lineup with a single model to replace the 1800X and 1700X, likely due to relatively low 1800X sales due to its similar overclockability to the cheaper 1700X.

This data matches up perfectly with yesterday’s Ryzen 2nd generation leaks, though please take this information with a grain of salt as none of this information has been confirmed by AMD at this time.
