40 years ago, Intel released a legendary processor called the 8086, the world's first x86 processor. Since then a lot has changed with x86, from the introduction of Multi-Core processing, 64-bit instructions of the use of AVX instruction sets.

To celebrate this processor's 40th Anniversary of Intel's 8086 processor, Intel has officially released their Limited Edition i7 8086K processor, an unlocked 6-core processor with a boost clock speed of 5GHz and a base clock speed of 4.0GHz. The i7 8086K is Intel's first CPU to boost to 5GHz out of the box, delivering their highest single-core performance to date.

Like all K-series processors, the i7 8086K will support overclocking and will feature the same HD 630 graphics as their i7 8700K, making the only difference between these processors pure clock speed, simple.

Right now Overclockers UK are selling these processors for £398.99, which is almost £70 more than a standard i7 8700K.

During their Computex Press COnference, Intel confirmed that their new i7 8086K processor will be supported on all 300-series motherboards and will support overclocking, making the CPU a higher-end version of the company's existing i7 8700K, with a 300MHz increase in both base and boost clock speeds.

Intel has not revealed the final pricing for their limited edition i7 8086K processor. To celebrate this launch, Intel plans to give away 8,086 i7 8086 processors at www.intel.com/8086sweepstakes. This sweepstake will be open for 24 hours.
