Most PC enthusiasts will already know that X299 comes with the same mounting layout as Intel’s older X99 and X79 sockets, but that does not always mean that there will be seamless cross-compatibility. We need only remember the early days of Skylake to know what could go wrong here, with some older cooler designs providing enough mounting force to bend CPUs.

EK Water Blocks has now confirmed that all of their current-generation CPU blocks will work with Intel’s latest X299 Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X LGA 2066 processors, without the need for a mounting kit upgrade or any aftermarket modifications.

This means that users of modern EK water blocks will be able to upgrade to X299 with ease and that newcomers to X299 will be able to use any existing X99 compatible product with X299 without any potential issues.

EK has also confirmed that their EK liquid cooling kits, including their new aluminium Fluid Gaming kits, will offer full compatibility with Intel’s LGA 2066 socket and X299 motherboards.
