ASUS ROG Z170 Lineup Revealed

ASUS' ROG Z170 Lineup has been revealed, showing a more stealthy colour scheme and tonne of new features.

ASUS' Republic of Gamers, ROG, brand has for a long time been associated with it's trademark black and red colour scheme. Since then many other motherboard manufacturers have since given similar designs to their own gaming oriented moherboards, so ASUS needed to make a move in a different direction, lest they be swallowed up in the masses of black and red motherboards on the market. ASUS opted not to go for their traditional colour scheme this time, instead taking a more stealthy approach with a design which is more akin to ASUS' ROG Black Edition Motherboards.

As you can see in the image above these motherboard look great, with red being the colour which highlights the motherboard, rather than being it's primary colouring. While these motherboard do look different aesthetically, they still look unmistakably ROG, with the premium components and large feature set which we would associate with any ROG board.

One thing that we have not seen in any other Z170 motherboard is the addition of a U.2 connector, which is the connector used with 2.5" NVMe SSDs, like Intel's 750 Series SSD. This is only on ASUS's Flagship Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard, but it is a great thing to see nonetheless. Users of other motherboards will likely need to use an M.2 to U.2 adapter in order to use a U.2 SSD, which simply would not look good aesthetically without a lot of good cable management.

So anyone considering one of these? I do think that Asus' has got the best looking boards here. Especially the red being an accent rather than a dominant colour. They just look good! I'm curious what they're going to do with their TUF.Quote
