Including a game is a rare treat on a motherboard with them normally reserved for the latest GPU, but such is the big name title included with the Maximus VII Formula that the whole front of the packaging is dedicated to Watch Dogs.

There are tons of goodies inside the box, including multi-GPU bridges, SATA cables, WiFi adaptor, heck you even get a door hanger. Although to be fair this says "Champion at play" so we can imagine if you're older than 10 it will remain in the box.

This is the first of the Maximus VII range we've looked at to include the armour that first appeared on the legendary P67 Sabertooth. We absolutely adore the looks, covering up all the unimportant guff.

Hopefully the covering doesn't degrade the thermal capabilities of the Maximus VII Formula. We can't recall seeing the ASUS Armor covering a heatsink so completely before. Perhaps the increase in surface area will be enough to compensate. The CPU socket area benefits from this armour coating, really emphasising the socket itself.

Connectivity is certainly well catered for. 6 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 take up the majority of the rear of the Formula, alongside the HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, audio jacks, combined PS2 port, Intel/GameFirst III combined RJ45, and ROG connect button. At the other edge of the Formula are enough SATA ports to keep a small server happy. Given the cheap price of even decent sized SSDs these days it makes sense to allow us to string so many of them together without resorting to an add-in RAID card.
