AMD's Zen 2 architecture reportedly offers a +13% IPC boost over Zen+

This kind of IPC boost would push AMD's IPC past Skylake

AMD's Zen 2 architecture reportedly offers a +13% IPC boost over Zen+

Rumour has it that AMD's Zen 2 architecture will deliver a compelling IPC upgrade over today's Ryzen processors, providing increased performance per clock in a variety of workloads.

Bits And Chips, has reported that AMD's Zen 2 architecture will deliver a "+13%" IPC upgrade  over Zen+in scientific tasks, citing a source that works for a "big company" that has provided the website with reliable information in the past, including Zen's IPC, the number of pins on AMD's AM4 socket and more.

This "+13%" upgrade is an average that it has presumably been calculated over several workloads, though it is worth noting that gaming is not one included in any of these test cases. Another factor that is worth noting is that Zen+ has an IPC advantage of around 3% over Zen, giving Zen 2 a more substantial overall performance leap over AMD's original Zen processors. These IPC tests were reportedly conducted within server workloads, the software used for these tests are unknown.

A 13% IPC boost generation-over-generation is nothing to scoff at, especially if TSMC's 7nm node enable AMD to increase their performance levels further with higher clock speeds. Zen 2 will be AMD's first major architectural shift since the release of Zen/Ryzen, with Zen+ acting more like a refinement of Zen, instead of a radical architectural leap.

As with all rumours, this 13% IPC value shouldn't be considered as fact, but such an increase would bring AMD's per clock performance levels past Intel's Skylake microarchitecture, at least in some areas.

Might be time to upgrade the 1800X then. If they can do a little more boost tweaking on top of the IPC boost, it could be a spectacular upgrade.Quote

So roughly 16% IPC boost over the original Zen. Pretty impressive.Quote

Going by current information I'd expect around March-April just like Zen and Zen+.Quote
