At Computex 2018, AMD shook the world with their reveal of their Ryzen Threadripper 2nd Generation 32-core processor, which is set to release later this year on their X399 platform.

This ups Threadripper's maximum core count from 16-cores to 32-cores while also adding the benefits of AMD's 12nm Zen+ architecture, offering a substantial performance improvement to those who use heavily threaded applications.

TUM APISAK, a reliable source of leaked benchmarking information, has found an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X processors within the 3DMARK database, a 32-core 64-thread processor with a listed base speed of 3.0GHz and a boost speed of 3.8GHz. This leak lines up with previous rumours that AMD's 2nd Gen Threadripper 24-core would be called the 2970X and that the 32-core model would be called the 2990X.

I saw a European retailer set an initial place-holder price of around €1560. If that's true, that's awesome. I thought the CPU would be around €1600. It might not be true, but if it is, Intel can't compete with that. Their current 18-core CPU costs £1700.Quote
