AMD reveals two new OEM exclusive Ryzen 2nd Gen products

AMD has officially unveiled their new Ryzen 5 2500X and Ryzen 3 2300X processors, both of which are now available within Acer's new Nitro N50-100 series desktop PC. So far, these processors appear to be available exclusively to OEMs, with AMD's official listings for each processor stating that they ship without stock cooling solutions.

When compared to their last-generation counterparts, AMD has made several noteworthy design changes, aside from the company's use of their Zen + architectural refinements and Globalfoundries' 12nm manufacturing process.

AMD's Ryzen 5 1500X and Ryzen 3 1300X both shipped with a 2+2 CCX configuration, using half of the cores that are available to AMD's full-sized 8-core Summit Ridge CPU dies and 16MB of L3 cache. Each of AMD's core clusters, CCXs, offer four cores, with AMD's Ryzen 5 2500X and Ryzen 3 2300X featuring a single fully enabled CCX, rather than two CCXs with 50% of their cores disabled.

These design changes will eliminate the potential latency issues that are posed by AMD's inter-CCX design, though this design tweak also prevents AMD from using Pinnacle Ridge's full 16MB of L3 cache. With these SKUs, AMD believes that the lower core-core latencies of a single CCX design outweigh the advantages of a larger L3 cache.

Below are the specifications of AMD's full AM4 Ryzen lineup. Both the Ryzen 5 2500X and Ryzen 3 2300X both feature a 65W TDP and boost clock speeds of 4GHz. Both AMD's Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 5 1500X remain available at retailers. AMD has confirmed that both of their new Ryzen 2nd Generation offerings support 2933MHz DDR4 memory.
