AMD announced Threadripper 2nd Generation with up to 32 cores and 64 threads

AMD has officially announced their Threadripper Second Generation series of processors, offering PC builders more cores than ever before. This new series of processors will provide users up to 32 cores and 64 threads, a 2x increase over AMD's 1st Generation Threadripper components, delivering a substantial performance uplift while maintaining compatibility with existing X399 motherboards.

Threadripper 2nd Generation processors will also feature the same Ryzen 2nd Gen features as AMD's latest 2700X processor, giving AMD's new Threadripper processors more than just a core count boost. AMD's Ryzen 2000 series processors offer higher clock speeds than their previous generation counterparts, lower memory latencies, support for higher DDR4 memory clock speeds and faster inter-CCX communications.

Sadly, AMD has not revealed the clock speeds of these new processors, though this information should be available within the coming weeks.

AMD's Threadripper Second Generation Processors will release in Q3 2018 and ship with support for existing X399 motherboards through BIOS updates. At their press conference, AMD demoed 24-core and 32-core Threadripper 2nd Gen CPUs.
