A 6c/6T Coffee Lake CPU has been spotted

A 6-core, 6-thread Coffee Lake CPU has been spotted in the SiSoftware database, a processor that appears to be an early production sample for the first 6-core i5 series CPU.
This is the first 6-core CPU from Intel to not feature hyperthreading, with this sample coming with a base clock speed of 3.5GHz and an unknown boost clock speed. At this time it is expected that this new series of CPUs will require Intel 300-series motherboards, with a rumoured release date in August 2017.
This new CPU looks like Intel's answer to AMD's Ryzen 5 series of CPUs, though at this time it is unknown what clock speeds or price point these processors will release at.

When comparing to Intel's current 6-core offerings we can see that this CPU offers considerably less cache, with this mystery CPU coming with 9MB of L3 cache and Intel's Broadwell-E 6800K coming with 15MB of L3 cache. This new CPU is also listed as coming on a Kaby Lake-S platform, which suggests that this new CPU will use the same socket as Kaby lake, which is not an HEDT socket.

Hmm. Well that's a bit weird. Seems like a lot of jiggery pokery to me. I mean yeah it will be quicker than a 4c 8t but how much quicker? (and don't quote numbers at me I am just sayin...)

Just seems like a very selfish way to compete with AMD on price/spec really. "Oh I know, our worthy customers don't deserve a 6c 12t CPU for a cheap price so let's disable HT !".

Mind you what am I even saying.

1. This will be hideously expensive.
2. So will the platform.
3. Another new socket perhaps? oh go on, just one waffer thin mint? (bonus points for telling me where that is from)Quote

It still won't likely beat a 1600 in multi-threaded tasks, but at least the i7 6c/12t should. The i5 would likely return to being the sweet spot for gaming. It's so annoying that the only reason why is because AMD questioned Intel. Out of principle I should support AMD for that.Quote
