Universal Pictures is now making a Gears of War movie

Universal Pictures now has the motion picture rights to Gears of War, with a film already in development under other watchful eyes of film producers Scott Struber and Dylan Clark.

Gears of War has already been comics and novels, offering a large universe which spans more than just the popular series' of Xbox titles. Rod Fergusson, the studio head of The Coalition, has stated that a motion picture was "the next logical step" for the series.

Below is a video of the announcement, which was put live on the Xbox YouTube channel earlier today.

Right now it is unknown if the Gear of War movie will be a straight adaptation of the games, or a new story which is contained within the same universe. Will we see Marcus Fenix fighting the Locust invasion on the big screen? Only time will tell.

At the minute a Gears of War film is in the works, though no timeframe has been announced for the release of the first Gears of War movie.
