It has been discovered that custom skins for the Nintendo Switch can irreparably damage the console, with adhesives eating away at the surface of Nintendo’s new console. 
 
This was discovered by the dbrand, a popular manufacturer of vinyl wrap skins for notebooks, consoles and other devices, who were testing their latest skins on Nintendo’s new console. The group discovered that both Nintendo’s Switch console and Joy-con controllers were incompatible with any vinyl wrap skins with an adhesive backing.  
 
When removing these skins the coating of the console peeled away, as well as parts of the console’s warning labels and regulatory warnings.

After discovering this issue, dbrand has since cancelled all pre-orders for their Nintendo Switch vinyl skins and are in the process or refunding buyers.  The company also issued the below statement as a public service announcement. 

  

     We’re here to make a public service announcement that under no circumstances should you be buying a vinyl skin/wrap for your Nintendo Switch,

Both the Joy-Cons and the console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind.

 

Nintendo Switch owners should not purchase any adhesive backed vinyl wraps on their new console, as this will damage the console and will ruin its external aesthetic.
