Valve is working on three new VR games

Valve’s Gabe Newell has confirmed that the company is working on three new VR games, which the company calls “full games” and not experiments.

These new games will be developed using unity and Valve’s own Source 2 engine, with the game developer revealing no story or genre’s for these three new titles. While the number three is mentioned, it is highly unlikely that any of these three titles will be Half Life 3.

Gabe Newell states that one of the biggest problems with VR today is the lack of compelling games and software that can justify such an expensive purchase. Valve wants to create some AAA VR experiences moving forward to address this issue, as well as create technology that will make VR more affordable and accessible to gamers.

If you took the existing VR systems and made them 80 per cent cheaper there’s still not a huge market, right?,

There’s still not an incredibly compelling reason for people to spend 20 hours a day in VR. Once you’ve got something, the thing that really causes millions of people to be excited about it, then you start worrying about cost reducing. It’s sort of the old joke that premature cost reduction is the root of all evil.

Valve is working on three new VR games

Right now all we can do is guess at what Valve’s upcoming VR experience will be, though new puzzle games like Portal seems like a great fit for VR.

Hopefully, Valve will announce more about these games as the are developed further, though for now, all we know about them is that they exist.
