When the UK voted to leave the EU in June 2017 the pound (£) fell in value, moving from a high of $1.49 to a value of around $1.22 today. This is a drop of around 20%, which has forced a lot of companies to increase their UK pricing over the last six months.

This week Apple has reportedly contacted their app store developers and has warned them that their UK pricing will soon increase by around 25%. This change will effectively give the UK pound the same value as the US dollar, where £0.79 price tiers increasing to £0.99, making it equal to the US price tier of $0.99. The Mid-their £1.49 price tag will also see an increase to £1.99, which is a 25% increase.

In recent months, Apple has also changed their pricing in India, Romania and Russia to account for currency fluctuation, all of which resulted in price increases for each respective country.

Subscription prices on the app store will not change after this price increase for those with existing recurring payments, though the pricing model will change for those who enter a new subscription.

It will be interesting to see if Apple will make any more price changes in the future if the value of the Pound increases, as typically these pricing changes are only implemented if the company loses money as a result of the currencies conversion rate.
